With the Republican National Convention happening in St. Paul, thousands of Ron Paul supporters held the Rally for the Republic in nearby Minneapolis, even though his presidential campaign is over.

I am a gun owner and pray who ever gets into the white house does so with more than "taxes bad guns good".  Although I concur, I'm not a caveman.
For all those people that want guns and want to lift the ban on assault weapons, come with me 5 mins from my neighborhood and walk thru newark at night.  We'll see how fast you change your mind.
To all those "Republicans", "Neo-Conservatives", Etc., who think theirs is the pro-gun rights party, keep these inconvenient truths in mind. It is under GOP rule that legislation was proposed to keep Veterans from buying guns. It was under GOP rule that the ONLY official outlet to sell US Military Surplus ammunition and parts of amunition to the public was closed down (Talon Manufacturing, W. Virginia). It was a GOP run BATF which changed it's regulations and banned importation of gun barrels for those who build or repair guns. It was that same BATF and Justice Department which changed the classification of blank steel plates and now calls them "Gun Recievers", requiring a Federal Form 4473 to buy a steel plate. It was your GOP-run Justice Department and State Department which has cut off importation of gun pieces and parts, many to rare war relic firearms, so that no repairs can be made.
So while the Democrats advocate sweeping sudden draconian gun laws which are in many cases easily defeated on Constitutional grounds, your "Republicans" prefer to do it in a form of creeping totalitarianism..legislating by decree and bureau, bypassing Congress altogether.
8 years of George Bush has seen more restrictions and bans put on guns and ammunition than Clinton ever dreamed of. Even the big ballyhooed "Assault Weapon Ban" ALLOWED people to still BUY ASSAULT WEAPONS. They simply had to have 5 US made PARTS. I bought LOTS of AK-47s when Clinton was in office.
Wake up, sleeping drones. Your choices are only between Fascism and Communism under this system. The end result will be the same. The only man talking about the Constitutional Republic, is RON PAUL.
The Second Amendment guarantees and preserves vital freedoms and liberties too many have taken for granted. Any politician running on a platform of more gun control views his or her constituents as little more than sheep to be controlled by The State.
Taxes bad and guns are good sums up our founding fathers and the movement to liberate our nation from Briton.  “Tea Party” anyone?   I am sorry some of you dont get that connection but millions of Americans are about ready to return to that early American movement if we need to in order to take back our nation and restore the Constitution.  Right now, Democrats = Republicans and Republicans = Democrats.   If you dont see that connection and how the parties are exactly the same when you sum up voting and spending,  then you are blinded by your party team talking points and act like politics in America is a sport more than a method of maintaining order and protecting our Constitution.
Most of all Gun Owners are Good American People. Yes they do Pay taxes. To bad Demos don't know that.
When is that man going to give up. He is a joke. Its like voting for Nader
Tax breaks for our cronies...good, tax breaks for everyone else...bad.  Guns for everyone...good.  Sound gun laws...bad.  Democrats in office...good.  Republicans in office...BAD.
20-somethings with too much time and no dictionary hate having a constitutional right to protect themselves from criminals.
Quoting Jared, Jersery: "For all those people that want guns and want to lift the ban on assault weapons, come with me 5 mins from my neighborhood and walk thru newark at night.  We'll see how fast you change your mind. "

Are you really so blind to think that gun laws are going to keep those indiviuals from obtaining weapons? All the restrictions that Dems want to place on guns will simply keep them out of the hands of law abiding citizens, who use them for protection rather than crime.
Wow, some uneducated people about gun laws here.

Assualt weapons have been illegal since the 1930's.

I'm not talking about weapons that LOOK like assualt weapons, I'm talking about assualt weapons.

Anti-gun groups would have you believe that people can easily access assualt weapons. They cannot. However, weapons that look similar to assualt weapons can be purchased.

That is kind of like outlawing Chevy Monty Carlo's because they LOOK like a NASCAR. Especially if they have Nascar like stickers on them.

Sorry Kevin, in fact, it is legal to purchase assault weapons, machine guns, AA guns, anti-tank guns, rocket launchers, grenades, and a fully armed main battle tank if you so desire. All you need is a Class 3 or Destructive Device license. This Gun Control thing is a wedge issue like abortion or gay marriage..it's a straw man. Yes, the National Firearms Act made it illegal to own assault weapons / machine guns WITHOUT A LICENSE. But they ARE legal.
Here's a question: If guns are banned completely in New York, why do people get shot there? Why do people get shot in San Francisco? Because LAWS DO NOT WORK.
Chris Rock had it right.  Keep the guns,
register the bullets.
As a Republican or NRA member I would ask you 2 questions.
Why did the Bush justice department come up lame during the Washington DC Supreme Court case. Which was won for the 2nd Ammendment.
Why did the NRA try not to have the case heard at all. Just google the case ...you'll see what I mean.
I'll tell you why. Once the 2nd ammendment is won the Republicans lose votes. Thats why the BUSH justice department came up lame.
Once the 2 ammendment is clarified the NRA is a magazine and a shooter support org. ...nothing more.
Whether It be, guns, abortion, gays, taxes , immigration, logical solutions lose organizations and politians both money and votes.
You just been played for eight years and most people lost money. Maybe we'll wake up when we have to sell our guns to pay our mortgages , or gas up our cars. But we just sent a lose billion to the country of Georgia, so apparently have money to spare. Just not for Americans. Just put it on the USA credit card backed by China & the EU..
CLING to those guns!  CLING CLING CLING!

Fighting for the Constitutional Right, but as Bush flushes the rest of the Constitution down the toilet you praise.
It's only a sport if the animal has a gun too.
I was never passionate about firearms until I began having to carry one on my job. I am an environmental geologist who remediates contaminated sites - most of which are in the inner city. We restore polluted sites so they may be returned to productive use in areas where jobs are needed. However, the local pimps,  pushers and racist gang members dont like it. If I did not have a firearm - I would not be here. My right to carry a firearm is vital to my job. I can't just "talk nice" to a gang member and "resolve" our conflict. Guns are not the problem - the culture we have allowed to evolve is the problem. We need to cultivate a culture of Personal Responsibility.

When fathers refuse to step up to the plate and act like real men and raise their own children, our prisons will remain full. Its NOT racism that keeps some people down - its their own culture of irresponsibility.
Luke, is it only a meal if the carrot has a fork too?  You fail to understand the sport in hunting. It pits man vs the very sharp mind of the wild.  Much like when a Bear hunts fish, or any other animal hunts its pray.  We are at the top of a food chain and hunting is a skill everyone should learn because it will put food on your table and feed your family without any help from a company or government.  Its a true form of conservation and independence.  Its very American.
Jared, Jersey, well the ban on assult weapons has been of no good.It appears the criminals will still find guns while the law abiding citizens are the only ones who obey. So, with that said, I do not see the advantage of a "ban" on any gun. Protect your constitutional rights before you live to regret it!!!
