I will never understand why rednecks or anyone else thinks the Republican party cares about middle class people. The Republicans give all the tax breaks to the people making over 250,000 a year and nothing to you and me. I'm for Obama and Democrats who actually have given medical insurance to young kids this year as just one example. Couldn't get much else done since they did not have a veto proof majority and Bush vetoed all sorts of plans to help the middle class. I believe it is a safe assumption to say that all of those folks who may question the redneck blood of these two men have most likely never stepped foot into Rollas city limits, Phelps County, or that part of Missouri in general. The term redneck is a widely used expression today. However, I believe it originally referred to farmers only; namely, those farmers who had worked in their fields all day and returned home with a sunburn on their neck. Why do so many Americans refuse to believe that stereotypes are merely stereotypes and not always truth? Not all rednecks hold racist sentiments, just in the same way that not all rednecks have to be farmers these days. I am proud that these Rednecks for Obama have chosen a term that will help relay their message to the communities back home. And, please tell me why two retired, grandfathers would care anything about publicity for their own benefit?

Additionally, Senator Obama stopped his motorcade to visit with these men and other supporters while he traveled through rural Missouri last month with Senator McCaskill. The mainstream media didnt pick-up on the story, but the locals did.

Beverly has it right, and she isn't being racist. Rednecks are generally conservative. I consider myself red neck and I'm not voting for the big O. I would vote for a conservative, proud of America human being whether they are black, hispanic, oriental, female, etc. I live in Mississippi and I am beyond race (and believe it or not a lot of us here are). I look at a person's heart, beliefs and actions.

Why would I vote for the O? Someone who wants to raise taxes, believes America is on the decline, would pull a Neville Chamberlin and create more international problems than he solves, wants to continue the entitlement system which doesn't help people overcome being poor or in bad situations but rather perpetuates their condition, and generally associates with negative people who have their own agenda that are destructive to America?

You vote for him if you want. In fact I encourage everyone to vote and vote for who ever they want to.

But my opinion is that this country needs is a strong, positive leader and the O doesn't fit that bill in my eyes.

I can think of many reasons to vote for Obama that has nothing to do with race. He understands the constitution therefore can defend it, he understands that we should spread the wealth to more citizens and create jobs here instead of shipping them to other countries; he has championed for the rights of child to have healthcare, women's rights, a realistic energy policy that lessens our dependence on oil; he spoke out against going to war with the wrong country for the wrong reasons with no justification; he understands the need for diplomacy before war; he understands how to chose and manage a team, set goals for the country's progress that we can actually reach, he knows how to think about a problem and involve the right people in the decision-making process, raise money, budget, organize people and mobilize them to do a job; he knows how to lead, inspire, and think outside of the box to solve problems; he fights for the people of this nation, not just the rich and big business; he knows how to use a computer, get the job done and he's brilliant!
As for Sen. Obama's tax plan, he plans to lower the tax burden on people making less than $250000/yr (the middle class and lower) by incresing the taxes for people who make more than $250000/yr, since they pay a lesser % after a certain amount causing their average tax % to be less than people who make less. McCain says he won't raise taxes, but he will...just like the first Pres. Bush ("read my lips...) because we are in great DEBT! The 2nd Pres. Bush created another type of tax...deferred "tax" that I and the next generation and the one after them will have to pay! McCain plans to continue adding on to that debt. Or, he will actually raise taxes. Otherwise, there is NO MONEY! WE ARE BROKE, PEOPLE! Grow up and think! Do we need ANOTHER president that barely got out of college, can't see that the economy is in turmoil, and thinks that the gas tax holiday is going to give the people of this nation a financial break? I think those are plenty of reasons to vote for OBAMA. There are many more reasons I can add, but is that enough?

Reading over the comments left here, People do not recognize that basically since comedian Jeff Foxworthy popularized the phrase "Redneck" that many people consider themselves that now. Some use it as a form of cultural identitiy as most other terms are considered non-PC anymore. However others in the south consider a "redneck" someone who lives below the decency standards of the area on purpose.

Almost everyone I know does not like Obama here in the south due to his church pastor's comments (as many here believe the people you associate with hold your beliefs also), Obama's leanings away from core values held in the South (which Obama commented on camera about).

So it's not the color of a man's skin anymore (as most wished Colin Powell would have run) as they are against the liberal leanings of the democartic party away from the mainly moderate-Conservative leanings of the populace of the south as a whole.

And as some said, this may just be a publicity stunt so people can get their promised "15 minutes" of fame.

The people here that keep saying that Obama will raise their taxes really are pretty misinformed about both candidates' tax plans. Obama is not going to raise your taxes, unless you make over $600,000 a year; he's actually going to give most Americans a BIGGER TAX CUT than McCain, since McCain reserves his largest tax cuts for people making over $2.87 million a year:

So if you want to vote for yet another Republican who goes on about how the Democrats will "raise your taxes" when they know very well that the Democrats will be LOWERING taxing for everyone but the very wealthy, while the RNC rolls out their own plan to offer huge tax breaks for millionaires yet again, well, go ahead. You're the one who's going to get screwed. Again.

Finally, I'm pretty tired of people saying Obama doesn't have enough "experience" to be president. Why do people think the only legitimate job experience is years in the U.S. Senate? Because working a few months a year, attending lobbyist dinners, and spending most of your time running for office is great job experience? That is how John McCain has spent the last 26 years, while Obama has spent them being a professor of constitutional law, a civil rights attorney, a community leader, and a state senator, where he could help address the concerns of those in his community, rather than be courted by the tobacco lobby, like your typical Republican U.S. senator. I'll take that over John McCain's "experience," thanks. McCain has a lot of "experience" supporting bad Republican policies that don't work, and if that's what you want, I guess he's your man.

I just want to say that I am a friend of Tony Viessman's daughter Sara and that he is what he says he is. This is not a publicity stunt. It amazes me how skeptical so many of you are that there are rednecks for obama. Let me tell you, I was at the Great Allentown Fair in Allentown, PA this week and the people who came asking for bumper stickers and yard signs weren't arugula eaters, they were hard-working regular Americans with not a lot to show for their labor and I was surprised at how clearly they understood the difference between what McCain is selling and Obama is offering -- true change, true leadership. Enough with the skepticisim. Tony is an example of how when people of this country look beyond what we're told separates us we can find common ground.

Rick in VA Beach, The problem with America is NOT people like me!!! The problem, in my humble opinion, is with people who are so driven by the almighty dollar that they lose sight of life. We do not need another Enron feeding off the American people.

There is so much that we as a society could do to help out others in need that we are not doing now it's scary. I'm not talking about handing out welfare checks to everyone for no reason what so ever. Or socialized medicine. Or any other "unjustified self-entitlement". I feel it's time we as a society started to look out for the most valuable asset we have - the American people. In my mind, that includes ending corporate greed and focusing on the issues facing everyday average Americans. Issues like losing your home, feeding your family, retiring with enough assets so you don't eat dog food for dinner, educating your children - the list of problems is endless - so are the solutions. It's time we found some solutions and started taking care of our families and ensuring a better future for our children , not just focusing on some change in some rule or regulation that allows a big fat bonus for some CEO already making 100+ times the hourly wage of a middle manager in his or her own company.

I am not advocating for a welfare state. I am simply stating that it's time for a change in this country's leadership and focus. Obama, in my opinion, is the right choice for that change this time around. He is by no means perfect - really - no one is perfect. He has views that I do not agree with. I believe he will do a better job addressing the issues that face the average American. I mean he has only one house!!! What's the other guy got like a 100 or something??

Your links to Obama's position on firearms show exactly why those of us who care about our constitutional rights should be very concerned. It is not the place of the gov't to decide which firearms are OK for the citizenry to use within the existing laws. When he says that he doesn't intend to interfere with the rights of those who hunt and use firearms for home defense he is saying that HE will decide what is OK to own and what is not. For you liberal folks out there that think so called assault weapons are involved in the bulk of the firearms related crimes out there, take a look at the FBI's UCR - This unbiased statistical breakdown shows that this is simply not the case. Of course the bulk of you have little to no knowledge of firearms and have been led to believe that all semi automatic firearms are man killers. The fact is that most semiautomatic firearms in the US today are used for hunting - check out these firearms: Browning B-80, Gold, Auto 5, BAR mkII, Remington, 1100, 1187, 7400, Ruger 1022, Benelli Super Black Eagle, Montefeltro, and hundreds of others. All of these are classified as "assualt weapons"??!! Yep, the Democratic Party with Obama in the lead really knows the 2nd Amendment and how they're hatred of what they don't understand will affect law abiding Americans.
