Maybe he didn't set his DG properly and flew another route. Some pilots forget to set it with the magnetic compass and will fly the DG and not ever cross check their headings. I know he is a professional and such but some guys can be type reted for a 747 or Citation but get them in a less familiar/ complicated aircraft and the checklist gets overlooked. Hope he is found.

PLEASE TELL THE SEARCHERS TO GO NORTH, TOWARDS THE BLACK ROCK DESERT. I BELIEVE HE DECIDED TO LOOK UP THERE FOR A DRY LAKE BED - CALL IT "SIXTH SENSE", BUT I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO HAD THIS THOUGHT THE DAY AFTER HE WENT MISSING. FROM THE NEWS REPORTS, THEY HAVEN'T EVEN TRIED THE AREA NORTH OF RENO,FERNLEY OR FALLON, NV.

well they are lookin in the wron g[lace, due east of that ranch in the smith valley is a good area to race land speed cars, actually it is closer to the utah state line,i have flown over that area manymany times and i could tell you where there is apossiblity he might of went down, ther is a rea about 80 miles east of there that has nsome strange winds,willtake you vertical really fast then drop you in a different different direction, i know it happend to me in a cessna 210. scared me to death, glad i had lots of power to get out of there and i know that lil plane he was in had 180 hp, maybe it took him down too fast and it didnt have the power to get out of it,lots of lil areas to go into there lots of lil canyons, in fact i saw a plane one time that had been shoved into a old abandoned mine, wigs were sheared off like it had been flwoninto the mine, was strange,

with no itinerary.. why are you looking in Nevada? who reported him missing, and why?
Why is it assumed he had no provisions?

Why would the search not include the Black Rock Desert and vicinity north of Reno? It is already considered a prime place for land speed attempts and is one of the flattest large lake beds in Neveda.

With our capabilities of observation from orbiting camera platforms, it would seem to be a simple, straightforward proposition to take several photos of the possible areas he might have gone down in and analyse them for signs of wreckage, etc. This would save tremendous amounts of labor and manual searching. Has anyone approached the NRO about this?

A guest on Coast to Coast AM, Tuesday-Wednesday, believes that he went down in California in or near Yosemite, and that is why they'll never find his plane by searching in Nevada.

Seems like on the news the arial photos show a large nearby lake. Only makes sense that he could of possibly went into the lake, thus no visable plane wreck. Just a thought, but have heard nothing about searching this lake?

I hope he will make it. As a pilot myself. I have always filed a flight plan when going long distance as well as informed my wife of my intended route and area I would be flying in. This would have drastically increased his chances for survival. Best of luck Steve and godspeed.

By chance have any of those planes (in hangers) Flown over areas close to where his plane could have gone down? And if so trace those planes recent flight paths. It may be the only thing that he recognizes from his location.

Something is dreadfully wrong, about this whole incident...Steve Fossett has either happened upon one of the greatest publicity stunts ever performed; or, he truly is the "knucklehead" that we have suspected all along - someone that will take immense risk, for the thrill and public acknowledgment that he accomplished something unique, with the clear intent of getting his stunts bank-rolled by Branson or Williams International (the fun people who brought us the cruise missile) or anyone else who cares to have their name on the side of his vehicles.

I feel sorry for his family and friends that have to endure this whole soap opera - they, as well as the public, deserve better...

I FIND IT DIFICULT TO UNDERSTAND WHY NO FLIGHT PLAN WAS FILED,ESPECIALLY BY AN EXPERIENCED FLYER LIKE MR.FOSSETT.
DID ANY AIRPORT HAVE HIM ON THEIR RADAR AT ANY TIME?
SURELY HIS DESTINATION HAD TO BE KNOWN BY SOMEONE.
THIS MISTORY SIGNAL NEEDS TO BE CLARIFIED.WITH ALL THE SPY IN THE SKY EQUIPMENT YOU WOULD THINK HIS LOCATION WOULD HAVE BEEN PINPOINTED BY NOW.
THE DRAMA OF HIS DISAPEARANCE WOULD MAKE FOR A GREAT MOVIE ,HOPEFULLY ONE WITH A HAPPY ENDING.

As a commercial pilot all my adult life and having assisted in C.A.P. searches may I offer the following.Employ the use of helicopters, hot air ballons and blimps in the search effort for obvious reasons.Observation is inhanced by slow flight and the ability to hover.

Under what circumstances would it be possible for a satellite to help locate Mr. Fossett. Wouldn't his aircraft be large enough to be picked up by a satellite?
