When all is set and done the delegates will be seated as will the delegates of Michigan. Florida was stolen in 2000 and was a close call for the republicans in 2004. Michigan was a close call for the democrats in 2000 and 2004. The democrats can not afford to write off both those states, which they will do by not seating them at the convention, and expect to win the general election. So they will seat them. The loser will complain bitterly but by that time it (hopefully) will not matter.

Democrats shut out of Florida

I wonder if there is an agenda behind the ruling. Just a thought.

Democrats shut out of Florida

something stinks "again" !!!!!

Democrats shut out of Florida

As a 23 year old white male from lower middle class who is inspired by Sen. They knew the rules regarding when they could hold their primary, they violated them, and the DNC punished them.

Now they are whining that the punishment they called down on themselves is a mistake. Gee, I guess they are SO SPECIAL that rules don't apply to them. Sure the Republican Party, when placed in the same situation, gave the Florida Republicans a slap on the wrist that gave them essentially what they wanted, but everyone knows that rule and laws don't apply to Republicans. Republicans are not bound by any social controls.

and you at MSNBC publish the childish whines of the scofflaw Florida Democrats that they shouldn't have been punished when they were warned in advance and violated the rules anyway. But of course, the media would rather publish stories about rule-breakers than about rule followers. More "conflict," of course. This story is unbalanced and far from objective. Did the reporter even bother to ask someone who tried to enforce the rules on the scofflaw Florida Democrats? Apparently not.

Just let the scofflaw Democratic Floridians whine. They caused their own problems, and just because they're left out of the process, well, they have no one to blame but themselves. And come November, it won't make a dime's worth of difference.

Democrats shut out of Florida

The DNC's decision to punish Democrats in Florida is dumb. How can they deal with other countries in our growing world. We can no longer take our ball and go home for we are in this world with many great people not just a few senators ego's. A "scofflaw" is literally one who ignores an established law. The Florida primary was moved up by the Florida LEGISLATURE ... You know, the folks who actually set the election laws in Florida? Doing so was perfectly legal. What was violated was not any "law" ... just a Democratic party "rule" ... and the DNC promptly shot every Florida Democrat right in the foot just to prove they were in charge. The Republicans were at least smart enough to use a bit of vaseline.

2) No one was "disenfranchised". Your "franchise" is your right to vote in the general election. In truth, while these primaries have become ensconsed in our election system, the Republican and Democratic "parties" are really just a bunch of people who agree to back one particular candidate ... and the "primaries" are just their formal way of picking who to back. The primary winners win no office. So ... Floridians can still vote in the general election for the candidate of their choice, and neither the DNC nor the RNC have a thing to say about it.

3) Blaming the "Republican" legislature. Wake up guys. The Florida Legislature was simply trying to give Florida the political clout that it deserves. Moving up the election was PERFECTLY LEGAL. And as for it being some "republican plot" to "disenfranchise" democrats, that's a lot of typical self pitying DEMOCRAT BS. Get it right people, it was the DNC ...the DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL COMMITTEE ... not the Republicans ... that decided to take away your votes in the democratic primary. They didn't have to do so. Your own party shafts you, yet many of you SOMEHOW still want to blame the Republicans. Will you people EVER take responsibility for anything?

Democrats shut out of Florida

Rick B (and all others who think the Democrats decided to change the primary date) - the Florida legislature, controlled by the Republicans with the help of Jeb Bush, passed the law over the objection of the Democratic legislators.

Democrats shut out of Florida

As a registered Florida Democrat, I'm upset that the DNC has stripped away all our delegates. If I could afford to move anywhere else, I probably would. When our legislature was told of the consequences if they moved the primary, then the decision should have been made a referendum for the public to decide. Unfortunately, they did not and we all have suffered for it. As for the DNC punishing Florida, again the punishment was swift, severe and largely unjustified. When so much hangs in the balance, it is foolish to alienate so many voters in order to teach elected officials a "lesson." What exactly were Floridians supposed to do. Our only remedy is to vote as I did so that my voice may still be heard (though not counted) and make some changes in the next election when it is already too late. The whole system is bloated and crumbling under its own self important weight and it is the citizens that suffer for it. Maybe we would fair better as a true, rather than representative democracy. It is truly a miracle that Florida democrats continue to persevere despite national scrutiny and ridicule, even by those in our own party. Never before have I felt that my opinion mattered so little. Shame on the DNC.

Democrats shut out of Florida

Incidentally, it is worth clarifying several things.

1) Republicans do control the Florida Legislature. It was the Legislature that moved the date of the primary.

2) Florida's Democratic Party did consider moving their primary back to February, but there is an important constitutional amendment concerning property taxes on the Jan. 29 ballot. It was decided that moving the Democratic primary could be detrimental since Democratic voters might not turn out to cast their ballots on the amendment.

3) The U.S. Constitution makes no mention of political parties -- they were a later creation. The parties are like private clubs -- very powerful ones -- that can make their own rules. Therefore they can get away with all kinds of shenanigans in the primaries that wouldn't fly in the general election.

The Florida Democrats were put in an untenable position by a Republican Legislature, and they got absolutely no sympathy from the DNC, from what I can gather.

It doesn't change the fact that I'm disgusted with both the state and national party for throwing away my vote and thousands of other Florida votes because of a petty calendar squabble.

Democrats shut out of Florida

Given that the Electoral sustem of voting is crammed down our throats and we are forced to have reresentitives vote for us.
