Dogs give humans unconditional love, even when we don't deserve it. They feel pain, just as humans do. We Americans have the capacity to feel compassion, love, and respect for all creatures great and small. That's what makes America so great.
Our soldiers are risking & losing their lives trying to help your country, and believe me, most Americans would gladly have them leave.
May God bless the Neesley family.

Boris and Mama come to America

Salem, just out of curiosity, are you a Taliban supporter???! Just wondering, because you have not placed the blame where it needs to be placed! You need to take a history class and realize who really started this war!! Not all Iraqis think like you do either! I just happened to be a proud Muslim, and and supporter of All things GOOD about Islam! Allah (SWT) created ALL things on earth including animals!
I do know that in Islam a cat or (halal) animal holds much more respect in the animal kingdom, and dogs are thought to be rather dirty, but they are living creatures with hearts, souls, and feelings!
Sometimes in war the only true companionship which will show no judgment, undying strength, and true loyalty to a person is their pet (no metter what kind of creature it is). In this case dogs serve for the army in just a valuable position as humans! And unless you are an extremist yourself (which you've definitely made yourself sound like), you would realize that not everyone in the world shares the religion of Islam, nor hold the same opinions towards dogs!
I don't have any dogs in my house, and wouldn't. I do have four cats though. Whenever my spouse and I see dogs (our neighbor has two) we show them just as much respect and care! An animal can be the most important person in a lonely and/or lost person's life! They will love you no matter what!
For the Iraqi vet whom braved the possiblity of consequences to help bring a part of this soldier home that held so much love and joy is very refreshing! People like him are the TRUE ambassadors of Islam! Not those who run around shooting all of those who refuse to convert to Islam! Allah will punish those who kill innocents! It is not the right of ANY human to punish someone who refuses Islam. The right of giving and taking life is reserved for Allah alone!
Yes you could make the argument that American's are responsible for killing as well. Yet if you took a look at why they are fighting you would hold your tounge! They are defending the rest of the world from the terrorism that is blatantly rampant over there!
To ALL of the casualties of war, the innocent men, women, children, soldiers, and animals of all species who have died in the name of good, peace, and brotherhood, may Allah bless you and grant you paradise in his kingdom!
Boris and Mama come to America

Refreshing to know that we finally got it right. In Vietnam, after the war, despite their unselfish bravery and loyalty, we left our valiant dog corps behind and most of them ended up horribly. I am glad to know that all life counts...human and otherwise. Salem....Americans would be happy to leave your god foresaken country...if only Iraqi's of all sectarian faiths, ethnicities would learn to live together to build a better Iraq....one that doesn't require America (or her Allies) to come and clean it up every 10-15 years. Americans have better things to do with our lives and treasure than to help ingrates like you, your family, friends and other idiots like you. We do it because we believe in a greater good (despite our better judgement), a concept you know nothing about. If you think sucking on VX nerve gas and napalm bombing by Saddam and his goons, or being part of the Al-Qaida Rag-Heads or a life under an Islamic Theocracy is a "blessed" life....you are welcome to it. But, before you stick your foot in your mouth again, you may want to speak to the Afghani folks who lived under those Taliban nitwits and nincompoops. I am sure they have a very different opinion.

Boris and Mama come to America

I'm sorry did I miss something?
Was Peter Neesley a solder in a combat zone?
Sure the story is heartwarming for the love of dogs
but what about Peter Neesley?
Why would his death be 'non-combat' related?
Somebody please explain?

Boris and Mama come to America

What a heartwarming story. Under Saddam an average 82 civilians were killed a day. Last year 73 civilians a day were killed by US and UK forces. Saddam killed approx. 500,000 in 24 years, allied troops are at 88,000 in 5 years. Every year since the 2003 invasion has beem bloodier than the last. The Iraqi occupation is no better than the Saddam dictatorship. To the Iraqi people we were never liberators, We were invaders.

Bring our brave young men and women home now. Support the troops not the illegal policy that deployed them.
Citations:
http://thereport.amnesty.org/eng/Regions/Middle-East-and-North-Africa/Iraq).
http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2008/01/10/2135507.htm
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/10/10/AR2006101001442.html
http://www.iraqbodycount.org/
http://www.iraqbodycount.org/analysis/numbers/year-four/
http://www.brookings.edu/fp/saban/iraq/index.pdf

Boris and Mama come to America

L. And truth to to be told I worry about the humans who have associated themselves with special canines, and then feel they have to abandon them. It wouldn't be so bad , if only the humans would try to teach the abandoned canines how to hunt and survive. I hope my human will allow me the freedom to hunt small game.(I know it has been explained to me that venison is off limits.) But there are squirrels(fresh off the feeder) and moles, woodchucks and various dumb birds. Yeah, I'm a Golden Retriever and I like to hunt. Get the story straight on who is the actual murderer, it is the people that set off horrific bombs among the civilian population, a cowardly act my friend! What would be so bad with a democratic Iraq? Would you prefer another Saddam style government? Tribe against tribe? The United States only wants a stable government that is not going to be it's enemy in your volatile part of the world. If the insurgency dissappears, so will we. Why prolong the innevitable? It is better to be a friend than an enemy... I just wish we could all be friends. I saw a video of a street scene in Iraq that occurred before the war. The people looked so happy, dancing and playing musical instruments. Peace will return to your country I am sure. I spent 27 months total in your country. Soldiers want to leave "YOUR" country. 4 Million refugees you say, the U.S.created? Your own people have killed that many in the last 5 years alone. 5 years ago you couldn't even post a blog on this site. Show me that you are brave by reporting an insurgent or disarming an IED you see. Then maybe you will get the respect like Peter Neesley and his dogs. He is a fellow Soldier and a hero.

Boris and Mama come to America

You got to be kidding me, 2 dogs...
Respecting life is one thing but to say this is some kind of story of triumph for the Iraqi vet and the "soildier" who owned the dogs. It was not meant for anyone other than them.

That same soldier had love to give to your people. Asking for nothing other than the privilege of helping you.

We want our soldiers home as much as you do, they are our children. When a child is lost, there is no greater pain. No matter if it is an Iraqi child, or an American child, or martian child for that matter. The hurt is just as bad. We as humans are as wounded as anyone at word of a child dying, no matter who's child it is. No one should be killing anyone - for any reason. The world is too good, and big, a place for such nonsense.

The insurgents (outsiders) want you vulnerable, so they can swoop in and do what they will with you. I know that people DO like to have something that a loved one cherished, after they are gone. The dogs, who may have been left to roam unattended, will now bring SOME comfort to the family.
Re: Saleme's comment and/or your response. Sheesh, Why, because ONE person said ONE thing thing that disagreed with YOUR beliefs do you have to ASSUME that 1. He speaks for ALL people of Iraq. Do YOU speak for ALL Americans?
2.That because HE says HE wants you out of his country that he DOESNT speak for ALL his fellow country men. Maybe that's the way most of them feel. Maybe You've been lead to believe ONLY what the MEDIA wants you to know.
3. Are we there fighting FOR the Iraqi Citizens or AGAINST them? It's hard to tell from your comments.
4. I guess though, that if you can preach about getting along, pulling together, and cease fighting AMONGST themselves, YOU would all be the example to follow right?
Boris and Mama come to America

Salem,

Can't argue that we shouldn't have been there in the first place. When it comes to terrorism, There were a lot more violent and relevant places we could have tackled first. When it comes to despots with WMDs, there are plenty of places that ranked deadlier and more volatile than Iraq. When it comes to countries with filled with atrocities, there are places closer and a lot more violent than Iraq.

SO I'm not sure why we went there, sure Iraq had a measure of all those things and wasn't a ncie place to live, probably even if you were on the good side of Suddam. I'm sure it only got worse once we got there, and based on what I've read we did a lot a$$ backwards policies there, and squandered any possible good will in reconstructing the counrty.

I can understadn the frustration from the world where the rest of the world gets to pay the price, because the people of this country don't bother to research there potential leaders and what they stand for, and whay they've done...and instead elect a person they most would like to have a beer with.

The war on terror was originally a noble and worthwhile cause, but bad politics and greed turned into something we should all be ashamed of.

Salem please reread this story and see the truth you have missed the first time, the americans like any otehr people in the world seeks peace and security, we like to reach out and help others that are willing to be helped, and where we can. Politics abuses those charactics we have in this country and peverts it into its gains for the power hungry and those that support them . Things get done on our name, things we would never support, and be appalled by if it was in front of us.

The fact we don't take more ownership of our leaders and what they do. we've grown somewhat complacent as a whole. I see that changing now, I see hope, I hope it sticks and I hope us taking real ownership of our leaders becomes ingrained in our society.

Boris and Mama come to America

D. All we want to do is take, cast blame, so few of us really from their hearts want to give and make things better. Dont you all get it? It has nothing to do with religion, oil, or who loves animals more than the next person. What this is coming down to is seperation of humanity. As long as our rightful governments remain on the courses they have emplaced all it will do is drive wedges between us all. We all live under the same blue sky, we all hurt when hurt, we all bleed the same color, and we all mourn our loses. Once we as human beings focus on becoming united together regardless of our race, our relegions, our countries of birth, or creeds, our oaths, our rights that God gave us as humans no matter how you choose to address Him as He is the ultimate ruler, and we all will answer for our own actions no matter who you think you are, where you are from, or which religions you choose to practice. The Ten Commandments are among all relegions as they were words inscribed into stone tablets in the begining of time. But yet we continue to defy those commandments in the name of democricy, in the name of relegion, in the name of what ever.... how about in the name of stupidity, would ya kill for that too?

Boris and Mama come to America

That an American took care of Iraqi dogs that the Iragi folks turned a blind eye to is heartwarming and knowing that those dogs will continue to be cared for is great. As for Salem's remarks - if the religious and political leaders would work together to ensure the safety of the Iraqi people, regardless of their religious beliefs, the US military and associated other people would gladly leave. I guess he thinks living under Sadam's regime was better than having an opportunity to live more freely and independently. their lives with the solders family. Blessing to that family and the dogs. Good work for all involved, the vet, airplane and to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary and to BETA (in holding it against them for leaving them, but BETA and Best Friends rescued over 500 dogs and alot of cats also. When the bombing started by the BETA rescue building they had to evacuate, I hope they will have many long wonderful years playing in the sun like I do everyday.

A doggie high five from Sebastian the Bassett Hound.

Boris and Mama come to America

to M AL SIROU,
Well said. How sad is this? A dog only lives to love man. Period. They give unconditional love which man so desperately needs.
I understand how Iraqi's must feel over our invasion of their country (regardless of Hussein), but there are many who appreciate us (so I am told). And there are many soldiers that have given their all to protect the Iraqi people from political strife and Al Quada. So please, Salem, try to see this from the soldier's eyes. The majority of American citizens DO NOT WANT US THERE - but they follow their leader, as your people followed Sadam. And a soldier that loves a dog truly loves people no matter their religion, nationality, and so forth. Especially a dog that was trying to survive on your streets. It's great to read. First I want to THANK all of the military for what they do for our FREEDOM, both today and for years past. We can write and read this (in English) because of what they have done for us. It's great for Detroit also we can use some good press. If the family that took in the dogs need a sitter give me a call. I believe anyone in this country would help you out! To GUNNY, if that Salem has the Balllss enough to get back with you, not that you would need it but I've got your back! To Kiwi from New Zeland, I know you are on the other side of the world from the USA, is that why you walk funny or is it because you have you head stuck up your butt??

Boris and Mama come to America

we should help all the animals of the world. so many are ill treated.. please give so many will live in happiness

Boris and Mama come to America

This is a wonderful story, and it certifies that even though there's war there is also much love in those soldiers hearts. All this concern about dogs! Now personally-nothing against those dogs-or any other ones-MORE POWER TO THEM- but come on!
We Americans have the capacity to feel compassion...for all?
Judging from our history and the way we have treated other nations in the past-America has little room to judge people on cruelty. This is not to say other countries don't have corruption, human rights abuses, etc. They do. But people have been and still have the capacity to be evil, corrupt, and wrong everywhere! There are no perfect, blameless countries free of sin in any part of the world-no shining cities on the hill;and, the sooner people consider this, the easier it will be for them to examine themselves and be holy, right, good, ethical, just, whatever-if they so choose.
With all this said. I am tired of the loss of life on all sides, the inhumanity of humanity towards its own in every country, class, race, creed, you name it. I even feel that animals should be treated with more respect but this piece is too melodramatic.

Boris and Mama come to America

Also, for the people noting that people that abuse animals are most likely to mistreat people. You are right! But the case can be made that tyrants will treat their pets better than the human"subjects they rule over. Hitler, himself had a pet dog he love, if I can call correctly! Didn't stop him from slaughtering millions of people! Also, I would like to point out that people that may oppose this story do not necessarily advocate for the abuse of pets either. I know I don't. But,although the article is heartwarming I think this article is melodramatic fluff. I really do! Fluff in this case may not be all good or bad-but it is what it is!(As far as I'm concerned). I also agree with the poster that it takes away from the big picture. As for being considered partisan for making an observation about this article-no matter how you look at i-this story distract from serious issues!

Boris and Mama come to America

Salem, seriously, I feel you on this concern about dogs.
